Past Projects
The project “accepting responsibility“ developed a teaching module with ethical themes for the field “occupation related expertise” (Berufsfeldorientierte Kompetenzen - BOK). The project was designed by the EPG centre at the University of Freiburg (Barbara Skorupinski and Micha H. Werner) and the International Centre for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW) at the University of Tübingen (Jochen Berendes and Georg Mildenberger). It was funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts from 2005 to 2007. The main goal was to improve the moral judgment and conscientiousness of the students with regard to their specific occupational field and activity. In the two year phase of the project, two foundation courses and four specialized courses were developed, applied and evaluated.
The BOK courses „Accepting responsibility – Ethical questions in everyday life and in your work” („Verantwortung wahrnehmen – Ethische Fragen in Alltag und Beruf“), „Media and ethics“ („Medien und Ethik“), and “Sustainability, an ethical concept” („Nachhaltigkeit, ein ethisches Konzept“) were developed in the first pilot phase at the University of Freiburg.
After the pilot phase both universities decided to continue the project and to finance it with tuition fees. Since the teaching modules with ethical themes were very well received, the University of Freiburg doubled the number of teachers and thus expanded the scope of courses offered.
The project team which was guided by Barbara Skorupinski (October 2005 to September 2010) and which consisted of Maria Trübswetter (October 2005 to September 2008), Magdalena Steiner (December 2005 to September 2010), Thomas König (March 2008 to February 2009), Roswitha Dörendahl (March 2008 to March 2010), and Jessica Heesen (October 2008 to September 2010), was able to offer BOK courses in the following areas:
Since the end of the project “Accepting responsibility,” the Centre for Key Qualifications has continued to offer BOK courses with ethical themes.
